Founded in 1927, as a division of Chrysler, Plymouth cars were wildly popular because the were reliable and affordable. By 1940, only Ford sold more cars in America! The cars were solid and priced on a par with Ford and Chevrolet. Quality problems nearly killed off the brand in the late 1950's, but those issues were resolved and sales rose dramatically. The parent company decided to discontinue the marque in 2001, but there are still hindreds of thousands of well-loved Plymouths on the road.
