What's wrong with my Dodge 2500 Truck transmission?
Dodge trucks were sold prior to 2009, when Dodge split its truck line off into being its own division, Ram. They have a reputation for being rugged durable and versatile. Many homeowners and businesses rely on them daily to get the job done.
Some Dodge 2500 trucks have been known to develop significant problems with their transmissions:
Can shift into gear without pressing the brake pedal.
Truck could roll away while parked and the engine is off.
Inability to shift into park.
The five- and six-speed automatic transmissions found in 2009 Dodge and 2010 through 2017 Dodge models 2500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 are related to common complaints and recalls.
In some Dodge transmissions, the brake transmission shift interlock pin can sometimes get jammed in the open position. This allowes the truck to be put into gear or slip into gear without depressing the brake pedal.
That caused some trucks to jump out of Park and into Reverse or Drive and roll away while the truck is stopped and the engine is shut off. In other model years, the pin might get stuck closed and prevented the truck from being shifted out of gear at all.
Depending on the Dodge 1500 model, both the 4.7-liter V-6 and 5.7-liter HEMI V-8s were available with a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic transmission. Engine upgrades included a new camshaft profile, lash adjusters, low-tension piston rings and a 9.7:1 compression ratio4.7-liter V-8 engine adds knock sensors and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) for improved efficiency, the Getrag 238 six-speed manual transmission replaced the NV3500 five-speed manual on 3.7-liter and 4.7-liter Magnum engines.
